Sleeve Gastrectomyor Gastric Sleeveis a type of weight loss surgery in which a large portion of the stomach (about 80%, depending on size of stomach) is removed. The remaining part of the stomach looks like a narrow sleeve.

Mechanism of Action:
  • Itlimits the amount of food.
  • It reduces hungeras hunger hormone (called Ghrelin) producing glands are removed in the excised stomach.
  • Rapid transit of food into small bowel with early rise of hormones that cause satiety and reduce insulin resistance, which the central cause of pathophysiology of obesity, PCOS and cancers.

This is a bariatric or metabolic surgery, performed laparoscopically (minimally invasive surgery) through small incisionsand latest machines.

Candidates: Sleeve Gastrectomy is typically considered for individuals with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30or more, oreven lesser than this BMI inthose with obesity-related health conditions like diabetes, hypertension, or sleep apnea.
