Dr. Ghulam Murtaza

After graduating from Dow Medical College, he completed his general surgery training at Aga Khan University Hospital and received the “best graduate” and “best researcher” awards of year 2013. Taking forward the field of bariatric surgery, he got further training from south city hospital Karachi under the supervision of Dr. Mumtaz Maher. To further refine his knowledge & skills of obesity management and to serve the community best, he has traveled across different countries i.e. France (IRCAD, IHU, Strasbourg), SCOPE schools (Abu Dahbi, Greece, Korea, Turkey) and Atlanta (USA)

He is Fellow (American College of Surgeons and College of Physicians & Surgeons, Pakistan), Member of Royal college of surgeons of England, Member of IFSO (International Federation for Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders) and SCOPE (Strategic Centre for Obesity Professional Education) certified by World Obesity Federation. He is determined to establish a centre of excellence in obesity management & bariatric surgery.

Dr. Fariha Ashraf

Dr. Fariha Ashraf is a skilled Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgeon in Karachi. A graduate of Dow Medical College, she completed her surgical training through Dow University of Health Sciences. She further specialized in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery and has been actively practicing in this field for over two years as part of DOSTI.

Dr. Fariha holds a certification in the Integrated Care of Obesity from IFSO, where she ranked among the highest merit holders globally. She is one of the few female general surgeons in Karachi and in Pakistan who are IFSO-certified as well as practicing members. She is dedicated to promoting safe, accessible, and affordable bariatric surgery for all, which is perfectly aligned to the vision of DOSTI project.

Dr. Kanwal Nisa

Dr. Kanwal Nisa is associate General Surgeon in DOSTI team and holds an instrumental status during surgery and post op follow up of patients.

She earned her MBBS from Karachi Medical and Dental College and completed her initial training with a house job at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Following this, she served as a Resident Medical Officer and then completed a four-year General Surgery residency at Patel Hospital, where she subsequently held the position of Registrar in the General Surgery department for a year. Her experience includes performing numerous general surgical open and laparoscopic procedures and assisting in various bariatric surgeries under the guidance of Dr. Ghulam Murtaza.

Dr. Talal

Dr. Talal is a dedicated and charming anesthesiologist specializing in bariatric surgery anesthesia and complex surgical anesthesia, with a particular expertise in regional blocks. He earned his MBBS in 2011, followed by MCPS in Anesthesia in 2016, receiving his clinical training from The Indus Hospital, Karachi (2014–2016)—a renowned center known for high-acuity and high volume surgical services.

In pursuit of advanced pain management strategies, Dr. Talal completed his MSc in Pain Medicine from Riphah International University, Rawalpindi, in 2019. His practice emphasizes patient-centered, evidence-based anesthetic care, particularly in high-risk and multidisciplinary surgical settings.
